A standard rarely applies on its own

Standards usually refer to other standards. This is particularly important when a standard requires compliance with another standard. But where does it say that?

For cabling to comply with DIN EN 50173, it must also fulfil the requirements of other standards. And vice versa. Here is a brief overview of where this is stated:

Compliance with the standards in the DIN EN 50174 series is expressly required for cable systems in accordance with DIN EN 50173:
- In office areas: DIN EN 50173-2:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- In industrially used areas: DIN EN 50173-3:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- In dwellings: DIN EN 50173-4:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- In data centre areas: DIN EN 50173-5:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- For distributed building services: DIN EN 50173-6:2018-10, chapter 1.2

Compliance with the DIN EN 50310 standard is also expressly required for cable systems in accordance with DIN EN 50173:
- In office areas: DIN EN 50173-2:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- In industrially used areas: DIN EN 50173-3:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- In dwellings: DIN EN 50173-4:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- In data centre areas: DIN EN 50173-5:2018-10, chapter 1.2
- For distributed building services: DIN EN 50173-6:2018-10, chapter 1.2

Compliance with the DIN EN 50310 standard for potential equalisation is expressly required for cable systems according to DIN EN 50174-2 in accordance with DIN EN 50174-2:2018-10, Chapter 1.2.

(quoted from Traeger: Standards for IT cabling - What does which standard say where? KaTiKi-Verlag, Gärtringen, www.katiki.de/pro)

In summary, this means: DIN EN 50173, DIN EN 50174 and DIN EN 50310 (potential equalisation) must always be applied together. Only then is a cabling system considered to be compliant with DIN EN 50173.
