White paper "End-to-end links"

Whitepaper End-to-End-Links

Wherever telecommunication outlets and patch cords are unwanted for security or aesthetical reasons or where there is simply not enough room for them, modular plug terminated links (MPTLs), direct attach cabling and end-to-end links (E2E links) have proven their worth. This white paper focuses on these three link types, their features and benefits, the appropriate standards and on the dos and don’ts when testing the links.

In lobbies and carefully designed reception areas visible telecommunication outlets and patch cords are highly unwanted. The same applies to security applications, where connections have to be protected from unauthorised access. Building services equipment and industrial automation are using sensors that are connected to the horizontal cable or by using extra-long patch cords, in high port-density distributors in data centres servers and switches are directly connected. MPTL, direct attach cabling and E2E links are globally standardised and have become a useful alternative to classic structured cabling design. However, one can easily make mistakes when it comes to testing such links: The test reports might look good at first glance, but are wrong.

This white paper focuses on MPTL, direct attach cabling and E2E links in detail, shows common testing mistakes and gives guidance how to test properly.

The white paper can be downloaded from the Telegärtner website.
